DE Khris Bogle announces transfer to Michigan State
Florida transfer defensive end Khris Bogle, a key rotational player who started seven games across the past two seasons, announced he’s headed to Michigan State. Bogle was a four-star top-100 recruit in 2019. A source told The Athletic last week that Bogle entered the portal after learning of Brenton Cox’s intentions to return for a fifth season. Bogle has been Cox’s backup in many packages. Bogle played 262 snaps this season compared to 573 for Cox, whose 7.5 sacks included four against Florida State.

Michael Penix Jr. transfers to Washington
He shifted the football from his left hand to his right and extended that arm as far as he could, the game’s outcome resting on whether Michael Penix Jr. could get to the pylon before the defender could get him on the ground. As replays showed afterward, it could hardly have been closer, but up went the official’s arms, deeming the two-point try good, awarding Indiana a 36-35 upset victory of then-No. 8 Penn State in overtime.

Former Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. commits to Washington
Former Indiana quarterback Michael Penix Jr. had a busy weekend, visiting both UCF and Washington before announcing a commitment to UW on Tuesday. He gives the Huskies a veteran quarterback with 2019 signee Dylan Morris and 2021 signee Sam Huard the only other scholarship passers on the roster. Penix also has a history with new coach Kalen DeBoer, starting for Indiana during DeBoer’s lone season there in 2019 before a shoulder injury cut his year short. In fact, Penix has suffered some kind of major injury in all four of his college seasons, including two ACL tears and two shoulder injuries. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

LSU QB situation for bowl game
With starter Max Johnson having entered the transfer portal earlier this month, LSU must choose between burning Garrett Nussmeier’s redshirt and playing a walk-on quarterback in the Texas Bowl against Kansas State.
The Athletic College Football Staff
Interim #LSU coach Brad Davis says Garrett Nussmeier is taking reps and LSU is “working through things” to possibly allow Nussmeier to play the Texas Bowl and keep his redshirt.
If the redshirt doesn’t get approved, Davis implies LSU would play someone else at QB.

Spencer Rattler and Quinn Ewers are taken, but where is everyone else going?
The domino effect is coming. We just don’t yet know who will set it off.
There are more than 1,000 college football players currently active in the transfer portal and hundreds (or maybe even thousands) more coming soon. Predictably, it is the quarterback crop that is generating the most attention and intrigue by far right now. And boy, it sure is a bountiful crop this year.

Has college football’s free transfer killed the backup QB spot?
After the first weekend without a full slate of big games, the avalanche began. By Monday afternoon, they were everywhere: starting quarterbacks who didn’t want to become backup quarterbacks.

Former Sooners Spencer Rattler and Austin Stogner transfer to South Carolina
South Carolina has landed a big-time commitment from former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler. That’s a huge get for coach Shane Beamer going into Year 2. Compared to other high-profile QBs in the portal, Rattler had a very quiet recruitment up to this point. Beamer previously coached at Oklahoma so that connection made the Gamecocks a logical pick for Rattler, who needs a big 2022 to get his draft stock back to where it was going into the season.
South Carolina has also picked up a commitment from Oklahoma transfer TE Austin Stogner. Quite a night for Beamer and the Gamecocks. Stogner caught 47 passes for 654 yards and eight TDs in three seasons with the Sooners.

Former Ohio State linebacker/safety Craig Young commits to Kansas.
Former Ohio State linebacker/safety Craig Young has committed to Kansas. Young played 136 snaps for the Buckeyes this season, per Pro Football Focus, but could never find a consistent role. He was recruited as a defensive athlete out of high school, playing both linebacker and safety for Ohio State over three seasons. He’s a versatile player with some intriguing size at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds. I thought Young was poised for a breakout this year in Columbus. That never happened, but I’m interested to see what he can become with presumably more snaps available to him in Lawrence.

Iowa State DB Isheem Young enters the transfer portal
Iowa State defensive back Isheem Young has entered the transfer portal, The Athletic has learned. Young shared Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors in 2020 and started every game this season. He’s going to generate a lot of interest. The Cyclones have also lost LB Aric Horne, DB Kym-Mani King, DT Corey Suttle and WR Ezeriah Anderson to the portal today. They’ve rarely had much attrition during Matt Campbell’s tenure, so a day like this is a bit surprising to see
